All major credit cards are accepted in the Netherlands but not everywhere. Using your credit card will not be a problem in most hotels, restaurants, petrol stations and tourist attractions. The public transport in major Dutch cities have special counters for tourists/foreigners who want to pay for their tickets via credit card. However, in smaller cities you should keep in mind this is often not possible. Also credit cards can’t be used in supermarkets and most stores. You can pay either in cash or you can use a debit card, which is the most common payment method in the Netherlands. With a debit card you have to enter a pin code in order to successfully finalize the payment. So, if you want to be sure that you are able to pay everywhere in the Netherlands, we recommend you to arrange a debit card!
