Health care in the Netherlands is of a high standard and health insurance is mandatory. Expats living in the Netherlands or paying income tax in the Netherlands must purchase a health insurance package from a Dutch insurance company. These companies all having the same basic package. This insurance covers the standard care as for a general practitioner, hospital and pharmacy. In addition, it is possible to add additional insurance if this additional care is required.
