In the Netherlands children must attend school from 6th until their 16th birthday. Once a child is 3 years old, the parents automatically receive a letter at their home address. Besides the Dutch primary schools, international schools for expat children are popular. There are two types: private schools and schools which are partly funded by the government. Many international schools are focused on the standardised English programmes (IB: International Baccalaureate), meaning students can receive an internationally recognised education and easily transfer to other international schools around the world.
