This Thursday 13th May is ๐—”๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐——๐—ฎ๐˜† and (almost) everyone in the Netherlands will have a day off. But what do we celebrate with Ascension Day and why does this day always fall on a Thursday?

Ascension Day is traditionally celebrated the 40th day after Easter Sunday. Ascension Day always fall on a Thursday. However, the date differs every year. This has to do with the โ€œecclesiastical yearโ€ which is not quite the same as the calendar year.
